About the University
Overview

Joongbu University (중부대학교) was established in 1983 and operates its Goyang Campus in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi Province — directly connected to Seoul via subway. It offers programs in engineering, business, arts and humanities, health sciences, and IT, with a dedicated Global Healthcare Department specifically designed for international students.

Why Choose Joongbu University?

The Goyang Campus puts students within Seoul's extended metro area at significantly lower tuition than Seoul-based universities. The dedicated Global Healthcare 2-year program for international students gives those interested in healthcare a clearly defined, internationally managed pathway.

Campus & Facilities

The Goyang Campus features modern lecture buildings, a Korean Language Institute, student dormitories, sports facilities, a cafeteria, and the newly established international student center. Seoul is accessible via Gyeongui-Jungang Line metro in 30–40 minutes.

Student Life

Goyang-si is part of Greater Seoul — a major city in its own right with modern shopping centers, a cultural arts center, and excellent transport links. Students enjoy big-city amenities at smaller-city living costs, with Seoul fully accessible for work, entertainment, and travel.

Admission Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent, financial support documents, passport copy, health certificate. TOPIK Level 2+ recommended. Korean Language Institute available for preparation. Contact the university directly for program-specific requirements.

Scholarships & Financial Aid
Joongbu University offers tuition fee reductions and merit-based scholarships for international students. Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) nominations available. Contact admissions for current rates.
Studying in South Korea — What You Should Know
Cost of Living
Monthly living expenses in Korea range from ₩500,000–₩1,000,000 covering food, transport, and essentials. Dormitory costs are typically ₩200,000–₩400,000/month. Busan and provincial cities are significantly cheaper than Seoul.
Language
Korean is the primary language of instruction. Most partner universities offer Korean language courses for international students. Basic Korean (TOPIK Level 1–2) is required for most programs. TOPIK exams are held globally.
Student Visa (D-2)
International students study on a D-2 visa. SkillBridge assists you through the entire visa process. The visa allows part-time work up to 20 hours/week during semesters, unlimited during vacations.
Part-Time Work
Students with a work permit can work up to 20 hours per week during academic terms and full-time during vacations. Common jobs include restaurant service, tutoring, convenience stores, and campus jobs.
Healthcare
Korea has world-class healthcare. International students join the National Health Insurance (NHIS) — typically ₩60,000–₩80,000/month — covering most medical expenses at minimal cost.
Weather
Korea has four distinct seasons. Summers are hot and humid; winters can be cold and snowy. Spring and autumn are mild and beautiful — popular for travel and outdoor activities.
